Artist statement
I make music to give voice to what I feel most deeply, digest it with others, and remind myself and them that we are not alone.
About Nikhilesh
Nikhilesh is an independent artist and storyteller based in Chicago. After serving as the founding lead vocalist of indie pop band The Model Employees from 2024–2026, Nik turned his focus toward a solo career rooted in emotion, honesty, and the experiences that have shaped him.
Before music became his primary creative focus, dance changed the course of his life. What began as a sudden passion in his early twenties grew into a career that took him across the country. He performed alongside artists including Jeremih, A$AP Rocky, and the Sugar Hill Gang, and became the first Indian American to dance for the Chicago Bulls. He spent several years teaching commercial dance to thousands of students and later founded and directed The Forum Dance Company in Chicago, creating performances and collaborating with artists throughout the local community. Though his focus has shifted toward music, dance remains an important part of his creative identity and a community he hopes to continue supporting.
Outside of his creative work, Nik is a software engineer at John Deere, where he has spent the past eight years working in technology in support of the company’s mission to feed the world. Moving between art and engineering has given him two very different outlets for the same instinct: to create, understand, and solve.
